STYLE SND DESIGN ;
Yes, it is a 2015 version and a facelift too but then looking at it many would argue scratching their chins as to what all is new. The new Mahindra Thar gets clear lens headlamps for better illumination. The front bumpers now extend up to the front wheel fender to meet the new CMV norms which state that there cannot be any panel gaps. It now looks like a grown moustache signifying true make-in-India spirit.Also, there is ‘THAR’ embossed on the front bumper while rest of the arrangement is similar to the previous model. The rear canopy gets an update in the form of a better material along with a slant on the rear to make it look more compact. Since the cabin is located at a height, there is a side step for easy access to the cabin. These side steps are strong and can withstand heavy loads with ease. For that added novelty bit, the alloys have got a new shape and the tyres too are larger. Check for Mahindra Thar price in Mumbai
Importantly, the wheel arches have been extended to take care of the muck thrown from larger after market all terrain tyres. Other than that, things are mighty simple with manually adjustable ORVMs, basic door handles and a spare tyre proudly mounted on the rear tail gate.If you opt for the all terrain tyres like the one in our review car, be prepared for the extra effort required to open the gate. The Thar is definitely a fantastic looking off-roader especially with its old school traits but when it comes to safety, there is no central locking and the canopy can only be zipped close meaning it won’t be too wise to leave anything inside as the effort needed to rob is bare minimum.
COMFORT AND SPACE ;
More than the exterior, the interior has got some major changes in various forms, as the cabin is revamped and it looks totally different from the previous model. At the cabin we can see the dual tone (Black-Beige) dashboard, which is simply impressive in one word, with its better quality plastic materials and a big THAR branding the centre console. The dashboard includes a new lockable glove box, bold new brushed silver AC vents and new windshield demisters, while the three spoke steering wheel too is all new and it looks really sleek with the brand new chrome lined 3 pod instrument cluster. Another interesting part is it got an all new silver finished gear knob, which definitely gives a good feel.
As a car of this stature it also deserves comfort levels worthy of its price, and Mahindra made just that by giving this car the new premium wider leather seats and revised upholstery. It also got new floor diagram with cup holders for the passengers, as well as new door trims with arm rests. The AC with heater is standard for the Thar CRDe.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION ;
Power is generated by the 2.5 litre diesel motor capable of churning out maximum power of 105 BHP at 3800 RPM along with top torque of 247 NM between 1800 to 2000 RPM. Mahindra Thar transmission is a conventional five-speed manual transmission is linked to the powerful diesel motor. One of the prominent changes is the locking differential that brings a considerable change in the performance of the UV as an off-roader. Of the two variants, CRDe gets a four wheel drive system while the DI grade comes with a two-wheel drive system.
RIDE AND HANDLING ;
Mahindra claims the new Thar as True Blue Off-Roader; it comes with a ladder frame chassis which makes the car tough going and with the independent suspensions, it can perform tough off road tasks easily in the rough terrains. The grip of the wider tyres and mechanically locking rear differential technology is good enough to make sure the vehicle stays safe and secure while crossing through rough areas.
This car has an impressive 200 mm ground clearance as well as approach and departures angles of 44 degree and 27 degree respectively, which is all supportive to the huge off-road capability of this car .Apply car loan for Mahindra Thar at Carzprice
The Thar has always been a functional 4X4 built for real off-roading. Its ability to negotiate rough terrain is genuine, and being tough and durable, it’s perfect for the job. An iconic vehicle which has loads of character is now a touch more comfortable to sit in and use as everyday transport. The inclusion of the locking rear differential also makes it a bit more capable. It may not be as practical as a regular SUV, nor is it cheap at Rs 8.03 lakh and Mahindra hasn’t really improved it as much as it could have. But as things stand today, the only other serious off-roaders under Rs 10 lakh are the Maruti Gypsy which is nowhere as comfortable on the road and is not available off-the-shelf, and the Force Gurkha which is available only through select dealerships and costs about Rs 40,000 more. So, for those looking for a tough off-roader to use on a daily basis and are willing to accept a few compromises, the Thar is still the best option out there.
